Three-time Most Valuable Player Jokic endures a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets lost 147-123 at the Heat.
Jokic was hurt late in the first half in an unintentional collision with teammate Spencer Jones.
Jones landed on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly collapsed to the court holding his leg.
The star, that leads the league season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to suffering the setback.
He will have an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Right away, he realized something was wrong," commented Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Any player who gets hurt, it's tough to see, particularly somebody as special as him. We will know more tomorrow."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, at this moment, I'm more worried just about Jokic personally and the frustration of facing an event like that."
