News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

The duo will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their roles will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.

Exploring the New Story

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
