Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so we'll see.”

Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted known failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.”

He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
