Severe Rains Aggravate Conditions for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, UN Alert
Intense precipitation over the recent period have worsened the precarious situation of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, according to relief agencies.
"Horrendous" Night Poses Severe Dangers
A official described the weather overnight as "horrendous", with rain so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"The recent weather was truly terrible for the people. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the gales were so powerful," stated the representative.
Officials express grave worry that minors residing in makeshift shelters in damp attire will succumb to hypothermia and other sicknesses.
Deaths and Extensive Destruction
Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has passed away from the cold and at least 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins caused by the harsh conditions.
Additional accounts put a higher number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that numerous structures had collapsed completely and many others had collapsed partially.

Aid Efforts Deemed Insufficient
Organizations have stepped up deliveries of shelter, blankets and garments following the ceasefire started, but they have said there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to bring in that aid and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the requirements is so immense that we still have a great number of people and children who are genuinely enduring hardship each evening," stated one representative.
Long-Term Concerns and Ceasefire Provisions
The subsequent part of the agreement encompasses plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.
Relief groups have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing relief to address immediate and future requirements."
