Well, perhaps an contest for the urn in Australia where they retain a possibility to win back the Ashes after the first three Tests.

That will not be happening this time, though, after the hosts' dominant 82-run win in Adelaide left the home side with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on their own soil.

England's famous supporters' group, the organized fan base, have thousands of supporters traveling for the concluding fixtures in the SCG and MCG.

There are also tour groups who will spend the Christmas period overseas, as well as relatives and companions heading for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Fans with Booked Tickets

The Ryding siblings are four such fans.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their flights and tickets booked for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", anticipating a rare England series success.

Sadly, they've observed Australia outplay the visitors in just a short period from their residence in their hometown.

"People in the office has been making comments about it being over for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"The hope was that we would have the series on the line upon our arrival."

Diminishing Hope

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of securing a first win in 15 years for a victory down under ahead of the tour.

Yet now they are staring down the barrel of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 matches when the next match starts in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The England team - and their fans - will be hoping to sidestep a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

One sibling noted the "entertainment" of head coach the positive style of play in recent years had "brought fresh energy to" Test cricket for English supporters.

However, the group said they had minimal hopes for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are hoping for from the players is "some resilience".

"Every pundit points it out, but it all is about fortitude. 'Bazball' has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"Over the course of five days, you should dig in. Wafting outside 'sixth stump' areas has not been part of the textbooks, and that is primarily due to the frontline batsmen."

Future Prospects

Prompted about he believed England will win a match in this contest, Sam said: "It looks like the Aussies are just too good right now."

"It will require several individuals that delivers for the team and makes a big impact."

Even with the series lost, the siblings are still excited about the trip.

"We will have a wonderful trip anyway," added another sibling. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Of course, it's unfortunate we don't have more to play for, but we have invested a significant amount by now."

"We'll enjoy having Christmas and New Year out there. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time away from home during the festive period."

A schoolteacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the long-haul travel as part of her time off.

"As a backup plan, I've got golf to rely on," Katie concluded.
