Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have found plenty of engaging creations from small studios. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is truly a piece of poop striving to navigate to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. In one hundred fifty levels, battle mini-bosses and access a shop to purchase customizations for your fecal avatar.
Time your movements carefully, since one wrong move requires beginning again. Bounce on air pockets to hurl the poop to new heights, cross fragile ledges, and interact with switches to reveal hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS and use them on challenging levels where the action ramps up.
Graphically, the experience shows off neon level designs and catchy music score. The retro graphics with morphing basic polygons may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's tough to name other games where you control a coiled turd, video games often incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character droppings. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, including winning at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on Steam on November 19.
